To pinpoint Sacha Robotti’s sound isn’t easy – although one can clearly recognize his signature in everything he creates. His music could be described as meandering between the dirty bassheavy “booty” plains of electronic dance music and its’ futuristic shores; it is funky, has an experimental edge, uses a palette of rich sounds and tells a story with layers upon layers of depth and emotion. It also has a sonic quality that sets it apart from the rest.With a REAL name like Sacha Robotti, it may be evident from birth that you’re set for a life working in a synthesizer factory or in Artificial Intelligence. However, this Italian- German, Brussels (Belgium) born and bred polyglot with a Russian first name, has a huge talent for music, which surfaced very quickly when he started to play the cello excessively from age 7. In his teens, Sacha discovered the rumblings of the underground house and techno scene in his native Brussels in the 90s, which inspired him so much that he put down his bow and picked up the turntables in 1995. Influenced by the greats of this era: Green Velvet, Aphex Twin, Jeff Mills, DJ Funk, Thomas Bangalter, Dave Clarke, he was soon honing and mastering his own DJ skills. Graduating with an architecture degree from Edinburgh in 2001, he moved to Berlin to get fully submerged in the underbelly of the city’s nightlife.After his first self-released vinyls and an album under the Berlin DJ duo alias Robosonic as well as Master studies in music with Karl Bartos (formerly of Kraftwerk), Sacha Robotti put his name on the map as a solo producer with his toe- wobbling solo debut “Tingly Trumpets” in 2010. Proving that he has his finger on the pulse and the eye on the prize, he curated the prolific Berlin Kreuzberg Institut podcast, showcasing electronic dance music by established names and promoting new talent. Focusing on solo work, Sacha found a home at Klasse Recordings for some of his early solo work, teaming up with label head honcho Luca Lozano for their first release - “Bartok” kicked off a label that has now truly landed in Berlin and beyond.DJ gigs as far out as Mexico, NYC, Sydney, Toronto as well as an extremely busy production and international tour schedule with Robosonic after their hits “Worst Love”, “The Edge”, “La Fique”, and remixes for legends like Kerri Chandler, haven’t stopped Sacha from remaining a club motor in Berlin - relentlessly playing in all the clubs worth their salt - whatever the season, with realness, skill and a positive attitude! In terms of original productions, he released the bass driven “Move” on Klasse, as well as the collaborative track “Fotograf” he produced with Qzen - known for her tracks “Sucre” and “Sweat On The Walls” with John Tejada – with remixes by Tim Green and Michael Tello of PillowTalk.2012 was an Olympic year for Mr. Robotti as his track “T he Major” feat. DJ Rush dropped on the SF label Dirtybird in January (played by every bigname DJ - from Seth Troxler to Ellen Allien, Miss Kittin, Joris Voorn and the whole DB crew), and his bomb remix of Johanna Knutsson’s “Groove Support” came out on Klasse Recordings in Spring.In late Summer and Fall of that year, Sacha released more epic remixes: of Audiojack feat. Kevin Knapp on Gruuv, of Zombie Disco Squad feat. DJ Funk on Made To Play, and of Deo & Z-Man on Opossum Recordings. His original ghetto- house flavoured “The Big Ol EP” also dropped on Klasse Recordings (with a remix by the legendary Waxmaster Maurice from Chicago’s Dance Mania fame). Moreso, Sacha met up with his buddy Kill Frenzy in Brussels to make two signature tracks: “Go To The Mo” which came out on Dirtybird, and “I Like It” which was signed to Shadow Child’s new label FOOD. This release caused havoc when it was released in May 2013, together with a remix by B-Ju and a fun Kill Frenzy & Sacha Robotti radioshow on BBC 1 Xtra!2013 made another dream of Sacha’s come true, when his collaboration with the mighty Claude Vonstroke was released on Dirtybird: a VIP version of “Lay It Down – Re- Smoked”, the final track of his latest album “Urban Animal”.Mixmag thinks Sacha Robotti is “one to watch”, and so do we!
